‘Homeland’ Season Premiere Recap: You Can’t Go Home Again, and Carrie Doesn’t Want To


Homeland‘s fourth season begins with Carrie Mathison far from home, back in the field, working as Chief of Station at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan

She’s tasked with protecting U.S. interests in the region from the Taliban forces and sometimes that involves checking targets off a kill list

She orders a drone strike after asking for several confirmations of a tip from one of the local agents, Sandy Bachman (Corey Stoll). After the strike takes place, Carrie’s staff brings out a birthday cake for her and then she ducks out to head back to her room and Skype with her sister and Carrie’s baby daughter, Franny, who she had to leave home in the U.S. as her dangerous post doesn’t allow dependents. But after she gets home, and downs her meds with a swig of white wine, she calls too late and the baby is already asleep. In a practiced ritual, Carrie doses herself with Ambien, puts in her retainer and earplugs, dons a facemask and goes to sleep …
