Documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux is well-known for confronting the weird, the wacky and the controversial in his work, but in his first feature-length doc he takes on possibly his most ambitious topic yet: the elusive Church of Scientology.
Made in collaboration with director John Dower and producer Simon Chinn, the film features several re-created scenes based on the accounts of former members, including former senior church official Mark Rathbun — a.k.a. the “baddest ass dude in Scientology.”
Theroux failed to make contact with current head of the church, David Miscavige, and the trailer gives a sneak peek into some of the less-than-friendly encounters between the filmmakers and church members. …
