Super Mario Run, Nintendo’s first, true game-game for mobile devices, is coming to Apple’s iOS in 151 countries and regions on Dec. 15.
The game will be a free App Store download with limited access to the three modes of play. To unlock everything, you’ll need to pay $9.99 as an in-app purchase.
That’s on the higher end of App Store game pricing, though it’s not unheard of. Square Enix regularly charges more for ports that come to mobile from other hardware.
Nintendo, which has only one other mobile offering — the free-to-play social gaming app, Miitomo — can get away with charging a premium for its first smartphone-friendly Mario game. Now it’s on the game to convince players that they’re not just paying for a brand. …
