U.S. faces burly fight in Women’s World Cup ‘Group of Death’


The U.S. women’s national team is determined to win this World Cup after a painful 2011 loss, but in order to do so, it will need to first emerge from the 2015 tournament’s so-called “Group of Death.”

This highly competitive round-robin play, a hallmark of World Cup tournaments, pits the second-ranked U.S. against two other teams ranked in the top 10: Sweden and Australia. Nigeria, ranked 33rd, is the group’s fourth team, and has Asisat Oshoala, an accomplished, tenacious forward, leading its squad
